About King's College

King's College London, established in 1829 by King George IV, is one of London University's largest and most prestigious Colleges. It is multi-faculty institution with some 16,400 students, of whom about one in five is from outside the UK, and almost equal numbers of men and women. The College has a distinguished academic history; some notable achievements include Maxwell's equations and the experimental evidence underpinning the discovery of DNA. In the most recent national research assessment nearly half of its subject areas received 5 or 5* ratings, placing King's in the top ten of British Universities. More specifically, the Mathematics Department of King's received a top rating of 5 in both pure and applied mathematics.

King's Strand Campus, where the Centre for Neural Networks and the Department of Mathematics are based, is the most central of all the London Colleges, overlooking the River Thames, midway between the Houses of Parliament and St Paul's Cathedral. The British Museum, Trafalgar Square and the National Gallery and the West End with its theatres and cinemas, are all within easy walking distance.
