Much of my work has been influenced by Soviet (and now, Russian) mathematicians, who work or have worked at the Steklov Institute. Some I have met, including Gelfand, Bogoliubov, Vladimirov, Faddeev, Maslov, Kulish (both of whom stayed in my home), Netrusov, (who was at King's for a couple of years), Semenov-Tian-Shansky, Vershik, Volovich, Stepanov, Arnold, Holevo, Horuzhii, Slavnov, Polivanov, Aref'eva, Shirokov, Shiryaev and Shirkov (who was Nobel visiting Professor while I was at Lund). Something about them can be gleaned from the sections on web-site labelled Quantum Field Theory, Statistical Mechanics, and Probability and Mathematical Statistics. The St. Petersberg pages are better developed than those from Moscow.
