is now an honorary member of the research staff at IHES=Institute des hautes etudes, Bures-sur-Yvette, Paris, where he is Professor Emeritus. He has demonstrated that Wightman theory is "on the right lines" (Wightman's phrase) by showing that it leads to a well-defined scattering theory, following an outline of the ideas by Haag. Ruelle then gave equilibrium statistical physics the treatment, leaving it when it was established as mathematics. He then moved to dynamical systems, and originated big advances, in particular, the thermodynamic formalism. His life and works can be traced from here
