Michael Fisher at his 70 birthday conference, Rutgers, 2001.I first met Michael in 1958, when he had just been appointed at King's College London as lecturer in physics. He was president of the Sceptics Society, a dissenting student club at King's. Although I was at Imperial College, I was tolerated by the members, after having been encouraged to join by Gabriel Smol, who had left KCL to join Salam's group at IC.
