Wightman said of Borchers's work on the equivalence classes of quantum fields "whereas the work of Ruelle on scattering theory makes the ideas of Haag rigorous, and shows that the theory [Wightman theory] is on the right lines, the discovery of the Borchers classes shows a completely unexpected insight".
