1947-1954: East Grinstead Grammar School.
1954-1957: Imperial College, awarded B.Sc., (first class), and ARCS,
Mathematics, 1957.

Thesis title: The Quantum Theory of Fields; supervisor: Abdus Salam; external examiner, R. E. Peierls.
