Research

I work in Algebraic Number Theory which is the study of number fields and their generalisations (p-adic numbers, local fields...)

I have studied the properties of the algebraic objects that arise from such fields, such as class-groups and $S$-units , particularly from the point of view of their structure as modules for the Galois group.

Much of my recent work has been related to the Stark conjectures for an abelian extension of number fields.

Naturally, there have been some `spin-offs' into other areas of number theory for, for instance Dedekind Sums, Shintani generating functions and Shintani cocycles

Teaching

In the academic year 2009/10, I am teaching the first semester course CM350Z/6CCM350A/7CCM350B, Rings and Modules. (I shall not be teaching in the second semester.)
